Family: Epermeniidae Checklist Number: 47.005
Epermenia chaerophyllella (Goeze, 1783)
Garden Ridge-back
The Scottish distribution is predominantly eastern, but given the food-plants it should be more general. It’s rare in the islands, first recorded from South Uist in 2011. Mottled appearance with characteristic raised scale tufts (the new common name of ‘Ridge-back’ describes it well). Univoltine: found from July onwards, overwintering as an adult. Hogweed (Heracleum sphondylium) and related umbellifers are the larval food-plants.
