Trichopteryx carpinata  (Borkhausen, 1794)

Early Tooth-striped

An uncommon spring species with 31 records as of 2024, spread across the archipelago. The markings are variable and can be quite indistinct in some specimens, but the rounded forewing is a useful character. The fight period is from April to May in broadleaved woodland and scrub. The larvae feed on willow (Salix spp.), birches (Betula spp.) and alder (Alnus glutinosa).
