Phymatopus hecta (Linnaeus, 1758)

Widespread in Scotland but scarce or missing from the north and west. There are just a handful of records from the Outer Hebrides, all from South Uist, first recorded in 2009. Found in moorland particularly associated with bracken (Pteridium aquilinum). Adults are on the wing from late May to early August, peaking in June and July.
