Common and well recorded across the islands. On the wing from August to September over rough grassland, moorland and coastal dunes. The larvae feed on shrubby and herbaceous plants including heather (Calluna vulgaris), bilberry (Vaccinium myrtillus) and bird's-foot trefoil (Lotus corniculatus).
