Lasiocampa quercus (Linnaeus, 1758)
Northern Eggar
A form of the oak eggar frequently found on moorland from late May to early July. Heather (Calluna vulgaris), bilberry (Vaccinium myrtillus), and similar species are the main foodplants. Formerly, northern populations with a two-year development cycle were given sub-specific status as the northern eggar (Lasiocampa quercus callunae), but the situation is not as clear-cut as previously thought.
