Panolis flammea  ([Denis & Schiffermüller], 1775)

Pine Beauty

A distinct and attractive species. When at rest the wings are usually tightly folded against the body. A common species of coniferous plantations where it can become a pest, but here on the islands it is rarely recorded. The flight period is from March to May in plantations and established gardens. The larvae feed on the needles of typical plantation trees such as Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris), Corsican pine (Pinus nigra) and lodgepole pine (Pinus contorta).
