Pararge aegeria (Linnaeus, 1758)
Speckled Wood
This is a rare butterfly in the islands. Towards the northern and western margins of its range, it breeds only in woodland habitats and therefore has a very restricted distribution in the islands. It is only commonly recorded at one location from March to October. The larvae feed on grasses in damp woodland, and overwinter either as a caterpillar or chrysalis.
