Two records from South Uist though widespread on the UK mainland. Prefers woodland, gardens, hedgerows. Larvae feed on a wide variety of trees including pedunculate oak (Quercus robur), birches (Betula) species, aspen (Populus tremula) etc., as well as feeding on small larvae of other moth species
