Daphnis nerii  (Linnaeus, 1758)

Oleander Hawk-moth

On the NBN Atlas there are just four records north of the Great Glen: two on Shetland, one on the north-west coast of mainland Scotland and one on St. Kilda. The first record for the Outer Hebrides was found on 4 September 2014. A second specimen has been recorded on 29 October 2024 on the east side of Lewis. The larvae of this migrant have not been found in Britain but on the continent, it feeds on common periwinkle (Vinca minor) as well as oleander (Nerium oleander).
