Widespread across most of Scotland but scarcer towards the north and west. There are just seven records for the Outer Hebrides as of 2024. The flight period is February to March in woodland, scrub and gardens. A wide range of trees and shrubs are used by the larvae including hawthorns (Crataegus spp.), blackthorn (Prunus spinosa), birches (Betula spp.) and willows (Salix spp.).
