Family: Glyphipterigidae Checklist Number: 19.005
Glyphipterix haworthana (Stephens, 1834)
Cottongrass Moth
Scarce in Scotland with the first record for the Outer Hebrides in 2013. A second record appeared in 2015, both from Eriskay. Slightly larger than its close relatives, this species lives in boggy areas association with cottongrass (Eriophorum) species on which it lays its eggs. The larvae spin the fluffy seed heads to a grass stem prior to winter. The flight period is April to May but rarely seen as an adult.
