Hyles gallii  (Rottemburg, 1775)

Bedstraw Hawk-moth

A migrant species first recorded in the Outer Hebrides on South Uist in July 2011 with just two subsequent records. It would seem to have a north-western bias and nearly half the Scottish records are from Orkney and Shetland. The main sightings are from June to August. Bedstraws (Galium), rosebay willowherb (Chamerion angustifolium), and fuchsias (Fuchsia) are the main food-plants.
