Selidosema brunnearia  (Villers, 1789)

Rare and designated as Nationally Scarce A, it was first recorded on the Outer Hebrides in 2010. This is an extension of the known population based on Canna, Rum and the Ardnamurchan peninsula. The preferred habitats are heather moorland and coastal areas where the food-plants grow. Active during July and August the larvae feed on heather (Calluna vulgaris) and bird's-foot trefoil (Lotus corniculatus) and possible others.
