Acleris rufana   ([Denis & Schiffermüller], 1775)

Sweet-gale Tortrix

A rare species with several records from South Uist, all from one site. It is usually single brooded emerging in August and overwintering until April. The habitat includes moorland, heathland and boggy areas. Food-plants include bog-myrtle (Myrica gale) and willows (Salix spp.).
