Opisthograptis luteolata (Linnaeus, 1758)
Brimstone Moth
A very common species throughout Britain and unmistakeable. Multi-brooded farther south but probably only single-brooded in the Outer Hebrides. The main flight period here is from May to August. Hawthorn (Crataegus) and blackthorn (Prunus spinosa) are favoured by the larvae, but quite a range of other trees and shrubs are used. The larvae have a number of different colour forms.
