Rusina ferruginea (Esper, 1785)

Widespread in Scotland and well represented across the Outer Hebrides. The sexes differ with the males having broader and squarer forewings and more feathery antennae. It’s largely a woodland species, on the wing in June and July. The larvae feed on a broad range of herbaceous plants, including dandelions (Taraxacum), docks (Rumex) and plantains (Plantago).
