Pyrausta purpuralis  (Linnaeus, 1758)

Common Purple & Gold

Rare in Scotland with a small cluster at the southern end of South Uist. A pretty little day flying moth found in the vicinity of (Thymus) and wild mint (Mentha arvensis). It has been reported from July to August and needs to be carefully distinguished from a handful of similar members of the family. Active in sunny weather but also comes to light traps.
