Anania hortulata  (Linnaeus, 1758)

Small Magpie

Rare in the islands, first recorded from South Uist in 2010 with 3 subsequent records from South Uist and one from North Uist. The flight period is May to September over a large range of habitats. The food-plants are numerous including stinging nettles (Urtica dioica), suggesting it may be under-recorded.
