Gandaritis pyraliata  ([Denis & Schiffermüller], 1775)

Barred Straw

Common across most of Scotland but increasingly scarce towards the north and west. First reported on Harris in 1991 it was not recorded again until 2009 on South Uist. Since then, there have been five subsequent records. It has been found in July and August in lowland areas. It's characteristic resting position with the forewings held extended and completely covering the hindwings makes this species readily identifiable.
