Ptilodon capucina  (Linnaeus, 1758)

Coxcomb Prominent

A common species in Scotland but scarce in the Outer Hebrides. On the wing from June to August in woodland, scrub and established gardens. The larval food-plants are, birches (Betula spp.), hawthorn (Crataegus monogyna), alder (Alnus glutinosa), willows (Salix spp.) and others.
