Common and well recorded across the islands. On the wing from September to October over heathland, moorland and machair. The larvae feed on shrubby and herbaceous plants including heather (Calluna vulgaris), blackthorn (Prunus spinosa) and tufted hair grass (Deschampsia cespitosa).
