Anarta melanopa  (Thunberg, 1791)

Broad-bordered White Underwing

An elusive day-flying moth of moorland at high altitudes. An Arctic-alpine species with Scotland being the stronghold in Britain. There is just one record for the Outer Hebrides, recorded on Harris in 2014. The main flight period for Scotland in May to June in mountainous habitats. The larval food-plants are bilberry (Vaccinium myrtillus) and crowberry (Empetrum nigrum).
