Rare in Scotland with a small cluster in the south-west. Just one record for the Outer Hebrides from South Uist in July 2019. The flight period is May to September where thistles abound. The larvae feed primarily on thistles in the family Asteraceae, also recorded on common knapweed (Centaurea nigra). A striking moth when fresh but soon fades.
