Cybosia mesomella (Linnaeus, 1758)
Four-dotted Footman
Several species of footman have increased their range northwards in recent years. The first for the Outer Hebrides was light trapped on South Uist in June 2022. It resides in open areas such as heaths, moors and damp woods where the larval food-plants are. These include lichens and algae on the stems of various plants.
