Acronicta leporina (Linnaeus, 1758)

Miller

A species which is widespread in Scotland but missing from the north-east and the west. This striking moth was new for the Outer Hebrides when an individual was trapped at Druidibeg, South Uist in May 2022, closely followed by another at Bornish in June 2023. These are clearly on the western edge of its current geographical range. It’s most likely to be found in areas with birches (Betula spp.) and alder (Alnus glutinosa).
